This year includes a shake-up of lakes causing a few deserving waters to be absent, but the new lakes are good additions and offer legitimate options. The top seven should be on everyone’s list of must-try waters because they are proven big-slab producers.

Number 1 is still Grenada, MS. It should be on the bucket list of every fisherman who wants a serious shot at a 3-pounder. March 2019 will include high water so big slabs will be spread out and harder to find. Fish numbers should be good throughout 2019.

Lake Washington, MS, is highly pressured but remains a top pick with relatively easy fishing with a variety of techniques successful there. Santee Cooper, Arklabutla and Lake Fork round out the top five with big slabs available at each lake. Mississippi lakes dominate the top ten.
